Meet the Author: Josie’s Story
Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog and learn more about me in this post. It is truly a privilege to be able to share my thoughts and to have folks want to read what I have to say. I am so thankful for your interest in what I have to say, and hope you enjoy reading my blog posts!
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Feminist Studies with a minor in History, a Master of Social Work, a Post-Masters Certificate in Marriage & Family Therapy, and a Master of Arts in Education, specializing in Curriculum & Instruction. With this long list, you will very quickly learn that I love to learn!
Outside of being a therapist and consultant, I love taking naps, talking to my family on the phone/facetime, and catching up with friends! I am an introvert who loves to crochet (my office has blankets I have made), read romance novels, and watch tv in bed with a hot cup of tea!
Over the past 11 years, I have been in special education classrooms, preschool-college classrooms, after school programs, universities, mental health facilities, nonprofits, and more discovering that I am just as much an educator as I am a therapist and social worker. I cannot fully be one without the other. They are two puzzle pieces that go hand in hand and strengthen who I am as a person.
Being in these settings have solidified my passions. I want to be a therapist in the educational setting and an educator in the mental health setting. What does this mean? It means that I strive to support individuals, couples, families, and communities in understanding how mental health, social work, and education go hand in hand. My hope is to provide therapy that not only centers an effective treatment plan, but allows folks to be the experts of their stories while I share (sometimes teach) and practice interventions. I hope to also work with organizations and communities to better prepare those who are coming after them and around them through effective, equitable, and inclusive curriculum development and instruction.
As an interdisciplinary professional, I thrive most when I am balancing these two sides of my professional self and I hope to encourage others to bring their full selves to the work they do!
This blog reflects my interdisciplinary perspective! I will have posts on mental health, social work, and curriculum & instruction consulting while discussing work-life balance and life lessons. This blog is fully ME and I am excited to share more with you!
