Families evolve and change over time…
Because of this, the people we were when our parents and children were younger are not the same people they are today.
They have grown up, are making their own path in life, and wanting to stay connected in their relationship with their families(both biological and chosen).
Does this sound like you & your family?
If so, you are not alone.
As everyone is getting older, are you all getting into conflicts around:
communication as a family
money and life impacting decisions in the family
caregiving and supporting elder members of the family
culture shifts for adult children whose parents are immigrants to the United States
As therapists and as members of our own evolving families, we completely understand.
We want to create a space where each person in your family can work towards growth and change by…
Dissecting the Deeper Problem
What do we mean by dissecting the deeper problem? We mean that we want to figure out what the spoken conflict AND unspoken areas of conflict. In other words, what is being said out loud, and what is not?
Uncovering the ways the past is impacting the present.
One important reminder is that the history of our families impacts the relationships in our famillies. By uncovering the history of your family(safely and slowly), we can work to figure out what the family needs in the relationship: whether It is to stay close knit or create healthy distance.
Undo Loneliness and Create Healthy Boundaries in Families
Conflict in families can create a sense of loneliness that is heavy for one to carry alone. In our therapy with adult families, we work to support each family member communicate what they need, work through disagreeement, and engage with the family until It is not longer emotionally safe to do so.
